I loved Zach and Kendall's conversation today. It was short, but it proved everything that I have believed all along that the post traumatic stress that has plagued Zach since his rescue has all been about losing Kendall and his sons. I could understand his pain, that all this was the result of one person's totally random act without remorse.
I believe that Zach has totally forgiven Kendall for the ONS, but he needs retribution for the most precious thing that Ritchie nearly took away from him.... his family. I loved how Zach enumerated the two things that Ritchie caused him to miss out on ....Spike's implant surgery and most important Ian's coming home (looks like someone at AMC has been listening). Zach not only acknowledged his pain, but also Kendall's pain and what she was going through while he was missing. I am sure that there are dark moments that Zach still has to discuss with Kendall, but for the most part he has shared with her his most important inner most feelings.
Kudos to Kendall for bringing up the example of how Zach criticized her for seeking revenge on Greenlee and thus placed their family life in jeopardy. Now she is using his own words to stop him from making that same mistake. I believe that Zach is sincere when he said that he would do nothing to jeopardize their family, but sometimes the "best layed plans...." His "friendly" meeting with Richie I'm sure has been properly taken care of to make sure it remains private. Zach needs to vent and sometimes that requires more than just talking. He never was one much for talk.Whatever he has chosen to do is to protect his family and I will not fault him for that or sit in judgement of his methods.
Do I support vigilante justice? No, not really, but I hope that the writers will take us beyond this and begin to deal with the PTSD aspect of the story. I would not want Zach to be placed in the same category as Sonny or any of GH's merry band of mobsters. Zach fears that the randomness of Richie's behavior still poses a threat to his family if the legal justice system fails to punish him for his crimes. I can understand his commitment not to allow it to happen again.
I do hope that the writers delve into the deeper aspects of PTSD and the emotional problems that surface at the most unexpected time in a relationship.
Zendall - Yep. Today was a good day. TK played Zach's roiling emotions perfectly, and AM played Kendall's concern just as well. Finding out about Richie brought back a lot of the feelings that Zach's been trying so hard to shove aside and move on from; all the anger, guilt, frustration, etc. are surfacing again, and this could be really good. I love that Kendall tried to get Zach to open up, reminded him of what happened when she went after Greenlee, and told him that they can do anything as long as they do it together. Zach's been trying to protect her from a lot of his emotions since the HoR, but she is fully capable of helping if he'll let her, and I think we saw some of that today. I know he didn't take her advice--at least not completely, as we'll have to see how far things go on Monday--but the fact that they're talking makes me happy.
Hubbards - I like that there's a family who actually eats on the show. Not loving whiny, selfish Angie, but other than that I like the Hubbard family vibe.
Jackass/Greenlee - I hate him. I hate her. The only thing I semi-liked about their convo--which was so filled with obnoxious WTFs that there's no need to rehash them--was the fact that Jackass downplayed the 5MS, talking about the mistake aspect of it rather than the evilness of Kendall. Still, they can both sail off together for all I care. I wouldn't mind that. Especially if the boat sinks.
Jake/Ryan - Well, at least it's not a brain tumor. Jake's running a little hot and cold--ultra pushy and then ultra-cautionary--but that could be interesting depending on what his secret is. Dude, I want Josh involved in the Jake story, not the Greenlee crap.
Richie/Annie - They may be crazy, but I'm finding them entertaining right now. Sad that BM's leaving, and MCE can't be far behind for this Rylee garbage.
Kendall/Annie - Kendall is really being a good friend to Annie right now. Hopefully, this will mean that Annie doesn't send Richie after her. I guess that's one reason to be grateful for the Rylee crap--it means that psychoAnnie will sic Richie on Greenlee rather than Kendall. Hope Amanda and Babe show up to work to help Kendall, since Greenlee will be too busy with Ryan to worry about her beloved Fusion.
Zach/Richie - Well, it's a good thing that Jesse hasn't taken over as chief of police yet. (I still hope he will.) The current state of the PVPD lets Zach in to see the man who mowed him down without a second thought and left him for dead, and that's cool with me. Great tension between those two. Should be excellent. And I'm beyond excited for Myrtle!!!
GO TEAM SLATER!!!
I'm going to ignore the vigilante justice part of the story because, IMO, and speaking from personal experience (so forgive me here), there are times when your anger at someone for a random act that almost took your family away from you is such that you can't control it. I've never gone to the dark place where Zach is, but I get it. That's real to me.
I've been bothered by the double standard of Zach telling Kendall not to risk their family, and Zach ignoring Kendall when he did the same thing, but someone pointed out on another board that Zach didn't pay off the cops to drop Richie off in an alley so he could beat the crap out of him. They're still in the police station, and no matter what claims Richie might try to make, the cops are participants in this, which means Zach won't be arrested. However, if Richie falls through the cracks and is released, Zach will have put his family at actual physical risk in a different way than Kendall did. And while I'm going to enjoy Zach getting his revenge on Richie, I wish that Kendall's words would be enough to stop him from going too far.
As for Kendall, it's amazing and so aggravating to me that this Kendall Hart Slater is the same woman we saw a week ago, even two weeks ago. Gone are the insecurities and the Greenlee obsession. When AMC chooses to, they can write Kendall well. But that means they have to drop all the unresolved plot points from just days ago, with no satisfactory explanation in sight.
I continue to love the blurring of who Spike's daddy is. Ryan talks about being Spike's dad in scene after scene, but AMC isn't writing scenes for them. Instead, it's Zach in the scenes, and Kendall calling Zach Spike's daddy. Cool.
I loved the reference to Ian as "our boy". Yep. Now if we could just see him more often.
I'm hoping that we're almost at the end of all references to the ONS. When Zach didn't flat-out say it, but instead referred subtly to Kendall losing her best friend and Greenlee losing her fiance, I had hope that this is almost over. The fly in the ointment is Greenlee because until she forgives Kendall and Aidan, we'll keep hearing about it. I had had some concerns that this Richie story would keep the ONS alive, but I get the picture: AMC isn't going there. Zach has forgiven Kendall completely, but the bomb shelter stuff is another story, and I guess we're going to dig into that a little. That's OK with me because TK and AM are doing great with this story so far, and I need a story which brings Zen together for a change.
I think Kendall was talking about a picture that looked like Ryan in the book, and the 2nd set of daddy's was Z. I cracked up because Spike was like "That's not dada!" like he was seriously offended that she would say that.
I wish we had actually gotten to see Lefty instead of just hearing him cry for a bottle of scotch on the monitor.
