Alicia Minshew ~~ Outstanding Performer for the week of August 6th.

Even brassy Kendall Hart Slater seemed in danger of losing heart when the lives of both her sons were jeopardized on All My Children.

Alicia Minshew took advantage of the twin tragedies to show fans a Kendall who was a shadow of herself -- but found the inner strength to build herself back up.

Faced with two children suffering health crises, Minshew unraveled Kendall almost to unrecognizability. Gone was the ferocious character fans loved to hate over the years. In her place? A ghostlike imitation of her former self, one that shuffled around hospital rooms whispering, as though even the act of speaking was too much to bear. Minshew's sedate performance extinguished Kendall's trademark fire, and doused viewers in utter despair.

The tissue-clutching went on until news of Spike's deafness gave Minshew an opening to pull Kendall back from weepy waif to courageous mother. Kendall's infamous determination was restored with one declaration: "I will not let my son dance to tunes that he dimly remembers from years ago. I will not let him be different, or cut off from the world."

The Kendall fans know never lets anything stand in her way, not even inaccessible medical equipment, and Minshew proved that when Kendall laced into officious Dr. Horton. "Are we supposed to be impressed with you?" she snarled with venom in her voice and desperation in her eyes as she demanded the device her son needed immediately. "'Someday' is not good enough!"

Showcasing her considerable range, Minshew replaced the waterworks with firm resolve, then astonishment and finally and elation that culminated in the best medicine her son could ask for: a smile.

Minshew's performance was the perfect cure for what's been ailing Kendall.
