Jermetria - February 18, 2008 03:47 AM (GMT)
I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by the show. I didn't think I'd like it because I'm an OG Knight Rider fan. They are leaving it open for it to come back as a series!!

Desiree - February 18, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
I'm an OG Knight Rider fans as well and I liked it. I hope it did well and we can get JBru a series!

Cheryl - February 18, 2008 04:17 AM (GMT)
I loved me some Knight Rider back in the day and must admit I really liked the show. Mindless entertainment. I have a feeling that JBrun is really loving this roll. Imagine going to work everyday and driving the shit out of that car!??!!? I know I would.

Of course, I'd enjoy driving anything that isn't loaded down with carseats at this point. lol

AutumnRose49 - February 18, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
I used to watch KR back in the day too. Loved the car more than DH. lol

I was to busy watching Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) Pride and Prejudice on Masterpiece Theater, that I forgot all about the show. I have heard good things about the the Nu NR and Justin, so I hope it turns into a TV series for him.

Zendall Fan - February 19, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
I grew up watching Knight Rider, so I wasn't sure I'd like this, I was surprised, it was better than I thought it would be, and Justin was great in the role!

Yeah you can tell he's loving it.

I read it did well in the ratings, so maybe a series will happen

phyllisshnell - February 19, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
I was shocked. I watched and I liked it too. It would be funny as hell if it got picked up as a series in the fall.

'Knight Rider' Revs NBC's Ratings
By Paul J. Gough,AP

NEW YORK (Feb. 19) - NBC rode the "Knight Rider" TV-movie to a Sunday night primetime victory, pretty much ensuring that a remake of the '80s TV series will earn a spot in the network's fall schedule.

Meanwhile, Fox Sports' Daytona 500 coverage on Sunday afternoon averaged 17.8 million viewers, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research. That's up 1% from last year's 17.5 million and is the network's second-best rating for a Daytona 500 race.

But the primetime victor was "Knight Rider," which averaged 12.7 million viewers between 9 and 11 p.m. Its 5.0 rating/12 share among adults 18-49 was the best score for a TV movie since March 2005's "Their Eyes Were Watching God." (A rerun is scheduled for Saturday.)

It ran over everything in its path at 10 p.m., including CBS' premiere of edited episodes of Showtime's "Dexter" (8.1 million, 2.3/6) and a new episode of ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" (8.5 million, 3.0/7).

"Dexter," dusted off to fill holes in CBS' programming left by the writers strike, still drew more viewers than it ever did on Showtime. The serial-killer thriller averaged about 2.4 million viewers during its second season on the cable network last year, a 21% improvement over its debut season.

Only at 9 p.m. did "Knight Rider" run into some bumps up against the last hour of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (13.5 million, 4.5/11 for the full two hours) that beat it in viewership and narrowly edged it in the demo. Doing OK was Fox's "Family Guy" (7.2 million, 3.6/8). "Extreme Makeover" also won at 8 p.m against a new episode of "Big Brother" (6.7 million, 2.2/5) and NBC's "American Gladiators" (7.3 million, 3.0/8).

For the entire night, NBC (10 million, 4.0/10) won in adults 18-49 over ABC (11.1 million, 3.7/9); CBS (9.2 million, 2.1/5); Fox (7.3 million, 3.2/8); and The CW (838,000, 0.3/1).

Good for Justin. It was a fun series to watch twenty years ago. I'm sure it will be a fun series to watch again.

Thanks Cheryl

I'm glad for Justin, he really seems to love this role and it's such a great role for him, this could be a potentially great series and I can't wait :)

Maybe Justin can put in a good word for Sapinga, you know, casting-wise. It couldn't hurt.

Hee. Good for him.

NIGHTWATCH
•From Senior Writer/Editor Joe Diliberto: Justin Bruening's post-ALL MY CHILDREN career kicked into high gear with his first starring role in KNIGHT RIDER. Last Sunday's highly rated TV-movie rebooted the 1980s series and established Bruening as an action hero. His Mike Traceur started out as a bit of a cliché (a slacker chick magnet/disillusioned war vet), but Bruening's charisma kept the character from being annoying until the story allowed Mike to show reserves of compassion that overcame his world-weariness. Mike's transformation from disaffected to heroic was aided immeasurably by pretty Sarah (played by Deanna Russo, ex-Logan, Y&R). Sarah also began as a cliché (brainy hot chick/Mike's ex) but morphed into his conscience. Speaking of morphing, no matter how attractive the actors, the real star of the movie was the talking car, KITT (which stands for Knight Industries Three Thousand), voiced by Val Kilmer. Modern special effects enabled the computerized car to show off flashy capabilities like changing color and deflecting bullets, but when it comes down to it, the appeal is, it's just a kick-ass car. The storyline suffered from a pilot's need for exposition and positioning characters for series, but the tale of Sarah's kidnapped father (who built KITT) allowed the producers to reboot the concept and draft a new driver. Speaking of drivers, David Hasselhoff's (ex-Snapper, Y&R) cameo as original driver Michael Knight was handled as well as possible, considering he, too, was a cliché (the absent father). But the bridge between generations made sense. This movie accomplished its goal and made me want to watch a series starring Bruening, Russo and this Mustang. BTW, Bruening's commercials for Ford vehicles were endearing, but carried product placement to the extreme by uncomfortably blurring the lines between entertainment and commerce.

Speaking of the series, executive producer David Bartis knew he was creating a back-door pilot, so while the movie's plotline solved the kidnapping of Sarah's father, the larger issue of who was behind it all was left open. "It's positioned so that you know we've got all the players in place to go to series, but we don't wrap everything up," Bartis noted. Even though it is not official that a new series will debut in the fall, Bartis is ready to roll. "We will probably be a little more close-ended than something like THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, which I've been watching. I think they're doing a great job," Bartis assures. "But to me that's more serialized than what we're going for. We will have missions of the week that Mike is involved with. We will continue to roll out more mythology, more backstory. But our instinct is to go [for] a little more close-ended [episodes]." Considering that the movie won its time slot (5.0 rating and 12 share in adults 18 to 49) on its way to attracting 12.7 million total viewers, it looks like KNIGHT RIDER will ride again.
