Title: Well that's a change.....

The scenes today were very believeable IMO. Tad and Aidan talking about Aidan's being tangled up in the sextet of suck. Greenlee and Annie in their mini-catfight at Fusion. Ryan and Kendall talking about his memory loss and Greenlee's making things worse. Jack and Zach at the police station along with Samuel Woods as the search for Erica continues. Finally, Erica with her captor/cohort/biggest fan discussing their past relationships as they ride along in the back of a truck.
What was missing? Plot devices.
My first reaction was that the show was extremely boring and dull. And then I realized what I was watching. I guess I had forgotten what character driven episodes looked like.

I think that Kendall handled Ryan very well today. There is no doubt in my mind that she has any residual feelings for Ryan. She has a good heart and feels for the situation Ryan is in. She regards Ryan as a friend and Spike’s father. I liked the fact that she told Zach, that Ryan was at their house. For a moment I thought that she might keep that fact from him, but fortunately she is following her mother’s advice about not keeping secrets from her husband. Hopefully she will trust Zach enough to tell him about the ish also. Interestingly enough Kendall saw Greenlee’s manipulation with Ryan, yet she is not allowed to see how much pain and stress Greenlee has caused her and Zach since she has come back to PV.
Ryan’s behavior today was disgusting. He looked like a sick stalker. On the one hand he is talking about trying to remember his life with Annie, but he is looking with lusty eyes at Kendall and reaches for her hands. Kendall did the right thing by moving away and showing a certain amount of fear. Perhaps she was remembering Ryan’s abusive behavior or is that just too much to hope from these writers. Ryan’s amnesia is not making Ryan into a likeable character. If the writer’s think that his coming clean about the pretense with Annie will gain him some sympathy, they are dead wrong. He had no business coming to the Slater house unannounced when Zach was not home. If he wanted to come clean about his lying, he should have made sure that Zach was also home and spoke to both of them. He is not respecting Kendall’s marriage and until he does, he is DTM. He is still the stalking selfish abuser he has always been, he has only polished up his MO. Typical for an unrepentant con-man.
Greenlee and Annie. There is an interesting duo. They are so much alike. The only difference I see between them is their mode of operation. The truest thing that Ryan said today was his description of GB…her mouth is quicker than her brain. Greenlee’s claws are always out, whereas Annie’s are retracted. I know I should be happy about Annie calling GB out on her going after Spike, but to me it was just a token gesture of attack. If Annie was sincere, she should have come out in defense of Kendall when she was being charged with setting up Greenlee. Annie wasn’t there to support Kendall when Zach was missing either, but she was very quick in moving into the Slater house when her brother was stalking her and she didn’t care that she was putting everyone in danger. Annie to me is a two-faced bitch and is only a friend to Zach and Kendall when it serves her interest….and today it served her interest to attack Greenlee using Spike’s kidnapping. Of course GB’s “I’m sorry” (for the thousand’s time) rang rather shallow, considering that she still has not taken responsibility for that crime. Two of kind. They both deserve each other and I am sure they will due battle over Ryan in days to come. That hug at the end was such an anvil that it made my head spin.
Erica and Carmen’s conversations are becoming repetitive. I hope that we move forward in this s/l before this too becomes too dragged out . The flashbacks of Jerica were interesting, but their purpose a little too obvious.
Cheryl, I agree that today was a character driven show. What I thought interesting was that Tad was the one to review the idiocy of the sextet. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that Tad, being totally univolved, is the right person to review for the audience and to show how ridiculous it really is. Perhaps the writers are beginning to notice the mistakes that were being made during the strike.
It looks like tomorrow we get to see a Ryan smack down. Go Zach !!!!!

I am awaiting tomorrow's show with great anticipation. Looks like Zach the Therapist is in the house doing his own little version of "shock therapy".

I liked Kendall's shirt. I see Zach was wearing the black on black in preparation for his evul deeds tomorrow.

I agree with you Cheryl about the lack of plot devices. Take them out and the show is automatically 10 times better. Ryan actually had a reason to see Kendall[Erica was missing], Annie actually had a reason to be upset at Greenlee[Greenlee trying t,o pretend like the kiss wasn't a big deal], Jackson had a reason to be upset about Erica. Zach had a reason to be at the police station.
I'm taking everything about this show one day at a time, but I saw today's show as the real writers[Jeff, Addie, Amanda, etc], not B&E, to attempt to fix all of the damage done to the show by the bomb shelter story, rewrite of Greenlee's history since coming back to town and for the writer's strike messing up the Ryan2004 story line by Ryan pursuing Kendall so aggressively.
They brought up everything that has made viewers turn the TV to Y&R and Days:
. Annie reminded Greenlee of the real reason she came back to town, and actually said that the bomb shelter experience has people think she's changed, but she hasn't. Annie got to tell her she hasn't changed.
. Annie called her on taking Spike and wanting Ryan and they actually had RB's Greenlee acknowledge everything that she did and say she was sorry[it certainly wasn't enough, but at least it's not forgotten like it was yesterday]
. With the Jackson/Erica scenes, they tried to bring a connect and a romance back to that couple. They are attempting to fix that awful plot-driven scene where Jackson told Erica he didn't love her anymore. "You Are My Heart"? I'm no Jerica fan, but I had no idea that they even had a super couple phrase.
.Even Tad, talking to Aidan about the sextet mess out loud I feel was the scriptwriter literally saying, I know it's messed up, and I'm trying to fix it.' I hate that they've trying to make it seem like Aidan was so supportive of Kendall while Zach was missing, because he wasn't. I, for one, am wondering if he's the one who's really in love with Kendall and not Greenlee. I'z confused there.
.Ryan's confession to Kendall was good because it was about Annie, kind of, but he said it to the wrong person.
Sorry this was long, but today was the first time in a really really really long time that I thought every one was in character.
Zen :yay : Kendall's too nice, but she always is when she's being a friend to Ryan. Who knew it was possible that he would actually try to be a friend to her. I liked that she was all the way on the other side of the room to get away from him. That is going up there in my top 10 favorite Ryan/Kendall scenes.
Zach, I loved that he was there checking up on Erica. I liked him supporting Jack today. It seemed natural and not plot driven.[WHERE'S JOSH?] I and loved their phone call. WOW, a phone call between Zen! Zen, communicating and sharing their day like a real married couple. Who knew that was possible in this plot driven writing age. I loved Zach at the end of today's show. Looks like the real Zach Slater is back. Could Kendall be far behind?

My first thought today, too, was 'how boring'. But then I decided it wasn't boring, it was actually watchable. The conversations actually made sense, the characters actually did things I would agree with, and it seemed more balanced.
For a change, I am looking forward to something that will happen tomorrow - Zach's method of helping Ryan remember. Good stuff, I hope!
