Title: Would you like some water with that?

Jules - April 23, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)

See how much more enjoyable AMC is when Zen are allowed to have scenes alone together, with Spike and Ian? It's like a different world.

What struck me the most about today's show was the underlying humor in the Zach and Kendall scenes. Kendall packs, Zach unpacks. Kendall jokes with Zach that they should go to London (because the Bahama beach is too boring for him) and they can see where King Henry had his wife's head cut off. Zach avoids talking to Kendall by playing "admiral" with Spike before he gives the boy a bath. Zach lies down to close his eyes, turns away from Kendall as she refuses to be quiet, and even says to her that he's not avoiding talking--they've been talking, and he's pretty sure they'll be talking again soon. Then Kendall dumps the pitcher of water against the wall above him, which leaks down on him.

Think back to where we were 8 days ago, with Kendall crying in the cabin and offering Zach a divorce. Wow, and I mean that in a good way.

Their story needs some levity, and they are the only characters to do it. It wasn't a laugh riot at all, but it was real. People who fight and love each other find the humor in all the tension. There are very serious issues involved, and yet seeing these two people talk, argue and not be filled with so much anger at each other makes them not only real, but more complex than your average fictional couple. TK was an excellent straight man today. Zach's wit was drier than Kendall's, but AM cracked me up with her London joke and she was more the comedian than TK was. Good jobs all around.

On a serious note, I was glad to see Kendall say that she didn't care what Greenlee suspects because her marriage is more important. I was delighted that she was persistent with Zach, and I love any time one of them mentions Madden's island and the At Last. On Zach's part, he told her that he wasn't going to let her fall, which was a nice reminder of the early days of Crash. But Zach was getting on my nerves with his "We'll be OK, Kendall" mantra. I'm glad she didn't let him get away with that anymore.

Excellent show. Preview made me long for 1pm EST Thursday. We're almost there. :D

Great post Jules.

"I want to isolate us so we can dig deep and you want as many distractions as possible". With this statement we saw the Kendall I have been hoping and waiting for, feisty take no prisoners Kendall ready to fight to save her marriage. Kendall is doing what a lot of us said she should do kidnap Zach so they can be alone and talk this through but instead of taking him on the yacht she's doing it closed up in their bedroom (I'll take it any way I can get it). Zach looks so scared. You can't really tell that much when you're watching the show but when you look at the snappies and see his face, it's pure fear. Fear of losing control and letting it all blow.

A bonus for us all was the appearance of the boys. How great was it to see Zach and Kendall being parents. Zach sitting on the floor with Spike playing with his boats (he's getting ready for his bath) and Ian in his mom's arms. BEAUTIFUL.

I thought the whole show was good today. The biggest laugh of the day had to be GB saying it was all Me Me Me four years ago and Ryass telling her how she's changed. Are you kidding me? She is the only one that hasn't changed. At least she did admit the only reason she wanted a child was to save Ryass. I don't think the ONS is going to come out. I think what's going to stop the wedding is her feelings for Ryass. It was very clear today that she is using Aidass because Ryass doesn't want her and it's clear that he's using Annie to keep Emma happy and trying not to think about how he feels for GB. Who cares. I don't but as long as they're out of Zen's orbit I'm happy and they totally deserve each other.

On a shallow note, didn't TK look exceptionally HAWT lying on that bed. We even got a Zass shot. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm thinking I may have to stay home from work tomorrow. It's going to be a BLAZING hour.

Kudos to Kendall for not giving up on trying to get through to Zach and have him vent his penned up feelings. She knows that he is not OK with them just moving on. There is a big elephant in the room and he is getting bigger by the minute.

I agree with everything Jules said about today's show so I want to go back to yesterday’s show and note something that I noticed while doing the video summation. Strangely enough it was in the Zach/GB conversation. TK/Zach’s body language definitely showed signs of discomfort. The discomfort IMO was not only because of the snoopy bitch's irritating questions, but I think that Zach in focusing on the rough patch that he and Kendall are having, is beginning to realize that it is not only the "grief sex" that is the problem between him and Kendall.

When Kendall confessed to Zach she mentioned certain things that stuck in my mind and since the writing has improved, I think that they were put out there for a reason. While Zach was missing, Kendall said that she felt "abandoned" and she felt lost. Zach was gone for over a month and was not present at landmark moments in their lives....Spike's implant and Ian's coming home just to mention a few. IMO that had caused an emotional chasm in Kendall's feeling of being close and protected by Zach. Zach as well during that long harrowing month became detached from Kendall and his family even though he was fighting to get back to them.

Zach asked Kendall when did she stop trusting him and lost faith in him. I think this feeling of abandonment continued after Zach's rescue also. Kendall felt that he was now sharing things with Greenlee and was keeping her out. Zach's failure to open up about what happened in the "hole" as well as his failure to open up about Hannah's death all IMO added to Kendall feeling of being pushed out of his life and thus her fear to confess the ONS. Therefore there is a lot more that has to be dealt with between them than just the "grief sex". They have to get back their faith in each other and Kendall's guilt and self-loathing is not helping as is also Zach's inability to open up and share with her his experience in the "hole".

That said, today IMO was a beginning to get to the reality of the situation and this time Kendall is the one fighting to have Zach face his demons as he made her face the truth when he rescued her from Madden’s island. I am so glad that Maddens Island was mentioned. In many ways it is a reversal of roles in their relationship.

I was not upset by Zach using the excuse that their going away at this time would raise Greenlee’s suspicions even more. He said it to convince Kendall that they should not go away and he only used GB as a means to an end. There is no way that Zach would put GB’s interests above Kendall’s.

Loved the family picture we got today. The babies are adorable. I think that picture today emphasized how important it is for these two people to find their way back to each other.

I hope tomorrow is as good as it's being led up to. I loved the underlying humor today, too. There was nothing mean about it, but just their way of trying to make their own point. I'm glad Kendall didn't back down, and it was actually nice to see Zach try to ignore her in his own Zach way. She will win, of course LOL. His refusal to talk and her determination for him to do just that is bound to make for a fantastic blowup, Slater style. I am looking forward to it.

I love how much time the Slaters seem to be spending in the Zedroom. It makes me feel like they are more invested in this couple, when they show their private and family moments there so often. Every day we see a little more of the room, and it seems to be getting bigger!

I really liked the Team Slater moments, and that each of them held both boys. They are a special couple with a wonderful family, which is worth fighting for.

EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly can't wait!!! I haven't been this excited for a single episode since October 17, 2006. :D

I thought it was fantastic that Kendall brought up Zach kidnapping her from Madden's yacht and she was exactly on point. In true male fashion, Zach was a complete and total pain in the ass today. I can understand him not wanting to discuss this, but pretending it will all go away certainly won't improve the situation.

Since you all covered the Zach and Kendall scenes really well, I'd like to say I thoroughly enjoyed the Adam/JR/Colby story today. Colby, in true dingbat teenage form, kept going on and on about panic attacks, almost driving Adam to have another. Meanwhile, JR is trying to shut her up and the good ol' brother/sister stuff comes out.

"Don't you have a yacht to crash?"

"Why do you go have yourself kidnapped again. And do it right this time."

Great stuff. And I loved that Adam found great pleasure in hearing his children arguing. But I must say the scene saddened me as well, because I am really going to miss Amber Childers.

Dude, being hot can only get you so far. If Zach were my husband and he pulled that shit today he would have gotten more than a few ice cubes thrown at him. OMG.

BTW, Lefty? SO freakin' cute! I just want to snuggle with him and blow rasberries on those cute, chubby cheeks.

I loved Zach and Kendall today. I'm so glad that they are really working on this story for Zendall and making it as realistic as possible.

I loved that fiery Kendall was back. I can't wait to see more of her tomorrow. [I'm not good at puns, but this is an intentional one.] LOL

I loved seeing the kids. Someone said earlier, it reminds them and us of what they're fighting for. Zendall's going to be okay. I loved that in the mist of everything, Zach said for her not to worry; that he wasn't going to let her fall.

Also I love that he had a need to simply be in her space. After he gave Spike a bath, Zach came back, He said he didn't want to talk, but if he really really didn't want to be around Kendall or if he really really didn't want to talk, he would have just let. He knows Kendall better than anyone and knows that she isn't just going to drop it. That tells me that perky's right, maybe he's afraid of letting his rage out in the house with Kendall and the kids there. Or maybe is he afraid that Kendall will leave him afterall if she saw it? I do love that for whatever his reason, Zach came right home when she said that she needed him and was always close, even when he left to tend to Spike.

I love that Kendall brought up the yacht and how the end result was them getting married. She was trying to tell him that something good could come out of them talking and him letting his feeling out.

Ian is adorable. I love that we are seeing him at all.

I love that we are seeing more and more of the Slater bedroom and Kendall's closet, even though it's way too small for me to actually believe it's hers.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

LOL, Amen to your post Jules! ICAM! I just loved the Zen today & how much it reminded me of the old snark & the back & forth those two have that's so spellbindingly real. It was perfectly done & the scenes with the boys were precious! How cute is Lefty & I even think he had fiyah on his bib! And Zach in those sexy, hawt jeans! MERCY!
I have to remember myself. (fanning) But the ice water was just the piece de resistance! I absolutely howled when Kendall threw it! Now raise your hands if you've ever done the same thing ladies. :innocent

WORD!

Zen - Excellent stuff today--though much too short and broken up. I love that Kendall's doing everything she can to break through this barrier that Zach's put up. Now that the secret is out, he's trying to ignore it, trying to pretend like it didn't happen, trying to pretend that everything's okay . . . that's what Kendall did when she was keeping the secret, and while an understandable impulse, it won't work. He needs to let his feelings about the ONS out, just the way she let hers out. It's bound to be agony, but better in the long run. He has been shutting her out for a long time. Remember that convo where she begged him to talk about the Hannah stuff and he said something like "There are some things that shouldn't be talked about," and she had the guilts and was like "Yeah, we all have things like that. I'm sorry I pushed you"? I'm hoping he remembers convos like this and sees that Kendall did want to, and occasionally did try to, tell him before.

I also kinda want there to be a convo between Kendall and 2x4 where the fact that she wanted to tell right away, and the fact he bullied her into secrecy, is discussed--this convo to be overheard by Zach of course. Something like that anyway. I want there to be a reveal of how it really happened that isn't said on the defensive to Zach. Like, wouldn't it have been nice for him to overhear 2x4's confession to Tad? A more objective account, in a way. Not expressing myself as well as I want to (I can type again, but now I'm getting a cold--totally blowing off my homework tonight).

Loved seeing the boys today! Especially Ian! When Kendall was talking to him about how hungry he was, I kept thinking about the first time she fed him, "Mr. Starving." What a sweetie he is! Loved Zach and the boats too.

Chandlers - Really enjoyed JR and Adam today! Good stuff there. Bring on the snark and love chez Chandler!

Hubbards - They got too much air time today for too little plot movement. I wouldn't have minded it so much if the Zen scenes hadn't been so short, but it didn't hold my attention much today. And, weren't they trying to deSORAS Frankie (Franklin, I guess now) so that he was supposedly five at the time of Jesse's "death"? I swear that kid was like, twelve, or something in the flashback.

Tad/KWAK - Again, too much air time for too little plot movement. Plus, KWAK annoys the hell out of me. Glad there were some Kate mentions though.

Rylee - Dear lord, it was all I could do to keep down my lunch. DFS: "Me, me, me, my career, my clothes, me"? Yeah, that pretty much sums her up. I'm disgusted that she's only come to the realization that she doesn't need/want kids now, after she kidnapped Spike, ruptured his spleen, deafened him (I'm not swallowing that rewrite), terrorized his family . . . Ryass, well, gee, guess he's got amnesia and some other hideous Green Disease where his brain doesn't work at all. Sooooooo obvious that the Rylee train is headed to town to steamroll the magic that is Graidan love and Annie'll be left out in the dust--she was awfully creepy yesterday saying she'll get him back; is anyone else thinking psycho-Richie creepy levels just a little bit? While I'm all for Rylee, despite the gag factor, if it keeps them away from Zen, I don't want either the BFF ish to continue or DFS to be Spike's step-mom. UGH.

GO TEAM SLATER!!! :yay

Hmmm... like Kendall did it? No, not quite. But I have reached into my glass, pulled out ice and pelted my husband with it. :D

My aunt is known for chucking books. LOL
