Ne-Yo to appear on 'All My Children'
By DERRIK J. LANG

AP Entertainment Writer

Ne-Yo is coming closer to Pine Valley.

The singer-songwriter will perform his songs "Closer" and "Stop This World" during an "All My Children" guest stint set to air May 21 and May 22. Ne-Yo will appear on the ABC daytime soap during the long anticipated second wedding of Angie and Jesse Hubbard, the supercouple played by Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams.

Of course, "All My Children" being "All My Children," the wedding will not go according to plan. Following the Grammy winner's performance at the reception, the bride will be kidnapped and taken away on a helicopter. The characters of Angie and Jesse Hubbard recently reunited after a 20-year absence following Jesse's presumed death.

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer C. Smith, is no stranger to drama. The Grammy winner was arrested in suburban Atlanta for reckless driving earlier this year. Cobb County police spokeswoman Cassie Reece said he was driving at speeds that exceeded 100 mph.

Huh? Why?

Maybe it has to do with Tad's Uncle. He figures he takes Angie he gets the information he wants. Why does it sound like AMC is once again going to miss Sweeps? They always show the good stuff when Sweeps are over. They start off great. Case in point today.

Ne-Yo Sings on "All My Children"
April 24, 2008 6:20 PDT By Jesse Murray

After 20 years apart, "All My Children" supercouple Angie (Debbi Morgan) and Jesse (Darnell Williams) are getting married (for the third time, but they do say it's the charm!). So, they're doing it in style: Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ne-Yo (aka Shaffer Smith) will perform at the couple's wedding and their reception. The two tracks he'll sing -- "Closer" and "Stop This World" -- are from his upcoming album, "Year of the Gentleman."

Ne-Yo's the real deal. His first album, "In My Own Words," hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts. He's also written popular songs for other artists, including Beyonce's "Irreplaceable."

On the show, we'll learn that Jesse and Ne-Yo became friends during Jesse's two decades away from Pine Valley (now THERE'S a story we'd like to see). Jesse calls his old friend and gets him to come to Pine Valley for the special occasion. Ne-Yo's episodes air on May 21 and May 22.

When it comes to acting, Ne-Yo, 28, is no neophyte (sorry, we couldn't resist). But, although he's appeared in two movies ("Save the Last Dance 2" and "Stomp the Yard"), he doesn't really consider himself an actor.

"I'm not an actor, I'm an R&B singer that can fake it pretty good," Ne-Yo told SOAPnet.com after the taping of his scenes. "But everybody was supportive and helpful. I personally think the scene went really well." Look for Ne-Yo to share scenes with Jesse, Frankie (Cornelius Smith Jr.), and Tad (Michael E. Knight).

Holy Matrimony!

We actually got to see the taping of the wedding, so we can tell you: It was pretty awesome. It's totally fitting for Angie and Jesse, especially with Ne-Yo's songs (OMG, wait until you see their first dance!). Of course, what happens afterward -- Angie gets kidnapped and taken onto a helicopter, and all hell breaks loose -- is just as nuts.

We know we're getting you excited, but you'll just have to wait. Check back here soon for some fabulous exclusive footage.

What do you think about Ne-Yo being on "All My Children"?

SODOnline is also reporting that Angie is kidnapped from the wedding reception on May 21-22.
