Title: Healing the wounds
Jules - April 25, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Literally and figuratively. Zach burned his hand, and Kendall applied a salve in the sexiest way a woman could apply a salve to a man. I'm just sayin'. After all, ladies, Zach's chest wasn't burned. :D
But back to the point. They both have some major wounds which need to heal. The point of today's show was that they will heal, as long as they have each other. There wasn't alot of dialogue in today's show, especially in the second half, where there was NONE. But what I liked alot, a whole lot, was when Zach wandered over to the bomb shelter opening and stared at it, and Kendall asked him to tell her what he was thinking. And he did! He didn't shut her out or ask for Greenlee, because only she can understand, bull shit, blah blah, bull shit, blah blah. Nope, he told her that he was remembering how when he first woke up in the hole, he didn't think he'd ever see her or the boys again. And she consoled him.
Didn't we want to see this in late December, early January? Well, better late than never.
Then we had Kendall blame herself for the argument in the hospital, and Zach blamed himself for leaving her during that argument when he'd promised he never would, and he apologized to her for that, and I'll admit that I was hoping he would, even though I understood that he could only take so much. And still Kendall wouldn't let that excuse her from her own errors along the way. Mutual acceptance of their own flaws, taking responsibility for their actions--I like this grown up stuff we're getting from Zendall.
I'll end on the shallow: When they were sitting on the bed, and he looked at her as if she was everything in the world to him, and they still began to make love even though Zach only had the one good hand, it was the hotness. They both looked amazing.
I'm looking forward to Zach telling Tad on Monday that he burned down the cabin. I'm expecting that Tad will figure out that Zach knows about the December Mistake, but I love Zach owning up to what he did, and being very cavalier about it. It makes me smile.
Oh, did I mention that I'm happy Dark Zach is back? In a red robe, no less? Tee hee!

Great post Jules!
I agree I loved the symbolism of Kendall healing Zach's wounds and only TK and AM can deliver such depth and emotion in their actions without using any dialogue at all!
How powerful was that last sequence in their bedroom- wow!
I'm also looking forward to Zach's plans for Aidan- wow the robe was smokin huh!
The last two weeks have truly been a wonderful journey for them as a couple and I really appreciate (like Jules mentioned too) the real, mature dialogue that the writers have given to us that we have been waiting for for SO long! Then combine the improved writing with the amazing talents of both TK and AM and what a story they have told us- I am happy to see that the Real Team Slater is back in the game!

I'm marrying your post Jules and adding this.
I loved that when Zach seemed to zone out from looking at the fire and when he burned his hand and looked so lost, it was Kendall's touch and kiss that snapped him out of it. It seems they won't have any problems sharing anything with each other after that.
This was a great end to this story. Thanks AMC, TK and AM.

Let me just emphasize what you posted, Phyllis. I don't think it's possible that the reveal story between Zach and Kendall could have been written or performed any better than it was. We had every stage needed starting with the pain, agony and despair and ending with, like Jules pointed out, the healing.
The hole is filled. The cabin is dust and ashes. No physical reminders of their own personal hells remain. The only things left are the memories. And since they are willing and able to put the past behind them and move forward, they can now begin to heal.
But there is a storm brewing in Zach's eyes and I must admit that I'm liking it a lot. The dark side has returned. Kendall accepted it once. Will she be able to live with it again? Dun dun duuuuuh!!!
That my friends is what you call SOAPY GOODNESS!!!

Jules you said it all. Here in New York we were pre-empted by the Sean Bell shooting end of trial news conference, so we did miss the scene where Zach burns his hand. Thanks to the ladies on LD at Z/K board and the screen caps, we did get to see it through their eyes. Can't wait for SoapNet tonite.
I think the burned hand was symbolic of the pain both are going through and Kendall's comforting kiss as the beginning of the healing.
They have been through a lot and still have many issues that will haunt, but the burning of the cabin was the beginning of turning to ashes and blowing away some of the past that just does not fit into their relationship.
I loved that Zach no longer shut Kendall out of his bomb shelter experience and his fears of never seeing her and the boys again. A great step forward to better understanding each other's feelings and strengthening the trust between them.
Kudos to Kendall for her tough love approach with Zach. Having released the demons within him and having stopped holding on to her own guilt, she opened the doors to a stronger marriage.
I agree that dark Zach has returned. He may have forgiven Kendall, but Aiden is another story.

Zen - Okay, I don't know what to make of the part where Zach picked up the burning wood. After all the talk of letting things go, he went on over there and picked something up. Now, if he'd only beat 2x4 with it . . . I dont' know. I'm hoping there's not and residual resentment for Kendall there in that burn. It just threw me when Zach picked that up, and his responses to Kendall were a little off to me. Who knows, maybe that's just my fever talking (stayed home from school and work today and watched in my pjs after a nap--thank god I didn't watch live though, so I could FF Erica's singing protest).
Loved Zen at home. Loved Kendall taking care of him, loved Zach letting her take care of him, and of course, loved what followed.
Chandlers - JR got a haircut! Hallelujah! Dixie's ghost is coming! Hee, hee, hee! Adam and JR seemed to regress from their convo the other day, though. Argh!
Prison - Waaaaaaaaaaay too much time was wasted on that boy band. Erica rules. Not loving the warden.
Hubbards/Martins/Creepy Uncle Rob - I'm really tired of Angie saying "I can't do this," or "I can't take this," or "that's enough." Glad Tad's finally getting a move on this Kate thing with Jesse. It's about freakin' time. Cassandra cracked me up today. Creepy Uncle Rob is turning into a cartoon.
GO TEAM SLATER!!! :yay
Ooooh, and Zach in the previews to Tad "I burned down your cabin. Hope you don't mind."--HAWT

Yes it was a happy ending, almost as if I were watching a great movie.
The fire was the cleansing this tortured couple needed to rise up from the ashes & be greater than ever. I loved all of it & it was quite a ride!
Today's sweetness & the tenderness shown was a fitting end to all of the agony. Loved the zchest rubbing & Kendall taking care of Zach's burned hand, espec.
